You’ll notice on this site I’m covering a lot of WordPress subject matter. I started with WordPress in 2006, and have been working with the platform on projects and client work ever since. WordPress now provides the backbone for 30% of all websites – and that includes the top million websites.

One of the biggest companies now making moves in the WordPress world is Silverlake Partners. In 2017, Silverlake raised $15 billion and in January 2018, they poured $250 million of that into hosting company, WP Engine. Shortly thereafter, WP Engine went on to make their first acquisition: StudioPress (makers of the Genesis theme).

The move from Silverlake is significant as they are major players on the world technology stage, with holdings in Alibaba, Dell, GoDaddy and Symantec. The combined revenue of their portfolio companies is $149 billion, and the latest round demonstrates serious clout in the finance world, meaning all eyes in the WordPress community will be on how WP Engine plays its cards over the next 12 months.
